Get excited for the summer and get packing!
WHAT TO BRING PACKING LIST
When packing, keep the following things in mind:
- You will have to carry your luggage yourself. (Pack lightly! You won’t regret it.)
- In the summer, Israel is very hot and dry. (Some nights may be chilly.)
- Think twice before bringing anything you are afraid of losing or breaking. We recommend labeling clothing with the participant’s name.
Mandatory Items
- A backpack is a must for hiking and touring
- Hiking Boots or sneakers with good support. Crocs, sandals, flip flops, water shoes are NOT acceptable for any sort of hiking on long walks.
- Hats- participants are encouraged to wear a hat when we are outdoors. Hats should be comfortable and provide sun protection. While baseball hats are acceptable, hats which cover the entire head and ears are most protective from the powerful sun. Visors are not acceptable.
- Sunscreen (spf 30 or higher)
- Sunglasses
- Insect repellent
- Flashlight with batteries
- Watch
- A small gift for your host family (can be purchased through the program, see information regarding AKIM Project)
- Double supply of any medication you will need (see the section on –Allergies and Medication for important details)
- Camera and film or extra disk for digital cameras
- Moisturizer/lip balm
- Extra batteries
- Small packets of soap powder/hand-washing liquid for hand laundry
- Hand sanitizer
- Small mirror
- Extra pair of prescription glasses (and an extra prescription)
- Contact lens wearers are strongly advised to bring a pair of glasses for emergencies. The dust of the Israeli desert can be a problem with contacts. We strongly suggest that you clean your contact lenses with a chemical system and not by a heating system.
- Overseas adapter/transformer (The electrical current in Israel is 220 volts AC, single phase, 50 cycles)
General Items
- 10-12 pairs of underwear
- 10-12 pairs of Socks
- 5-6 pair of Shorts
- 10-12 T-shirts
- 2 pr. Jeans or comfortable pants (casual)
- 1 Long sleeve shirt
- 2 Light sweatshirts
- Sleepwear
- 1 pr. Sandals/flip flops
- 1 pr. Dressier shoes (not too formal, something for Shabbat or less casual activities)
- 2 Bathing suits
- Kippah for males
- Modest Dress & Dress Clothes for Shabbat
- 1-2 towels for swimming
- Copy of your passport for ID- you will not be carrying your passport with you, & should have some form of ID.
